A few questions?

Picking up my 1994 Southwind Storm 28ft I purchased today and was wondering...Was planning on doing oil, trans fluid, diff. oil and radiator/T-stat. Kinda wanted an idea of what I'm going to need in terms of fluids and amounts.

1. What is the coolant system capacity? Total

2. What is the fluid capacity of the transmission?

3. What type fluid is used in the trans?

4. Differential fluid...How much?

5. Generator oil type and how often to service? Items such as air & oil filter can be purchased where?

6. Suggestions on oil grade/viscosity used? (Chevy 454)

A bit about the RV...It's in very good shape and has been barned when not in use. Roof has been re-coated & resealed, new tires (Michelin), New brakes, rotors and calipers, tuned-up recently, New gaskets and headers, all interior electrical items work great, all ext. items function great, 45,XXX miles, 2 owner RV. Asking $10,000 but I offered and purchased it for $8500.

Much appreciated,

Jim
  • Thanks, I was going to use Valvoline 10w-30 VR-1 in the engine.

Anyone know if the trans service requires anymore beyond a simple drain and changing of filter? Does it require torque converter draining or band adjustments?
  • It should have an owners manual that contains every bit of the info you asked about
  • I'll let you decide which oil, but I'd use the same oil in both the generator and the main engine. It prevents mistakes and one less bottle to carry. Assuming you have levelers, I'd change the oil in them also. People seem to dump all sorts of things in the levelers if they get low.
