ABS brake system

I have a Fleetwood Pace Arrow 37C coach - took an exit off I95 in Georgia for a Flying J and as I turned I heard a load bang - the ABS light came on and the darn thing started to beep and then a message appeared on the dash that I had brake failure! Well my braked still work but the ABS light will not go off and the darn beeping is driving me crazy! Does anyone know how to disable the ABS alarm? Please Please!!!
  • Not sure on your MH but had that issue a few years back on my GMC Sierra. There was a fuse that controlled the ABS system. Still had brakes just disabled the ABS.
  • It could be the sensor just need cleaning. The abs alarm has a fuse. Where it is located at depends on which chassis. ???
  • It is the loud BANG followed by the light that would have me diagnosing the problem before driving it!

Could be something as simple as wheel sensor came loose. But,could be something serious.

X-2, I agree it needs to be looked at! If you brake hard (extreme downhill braking) and heat up your calipers (overheat) that can cause the problem it happened to me once (with no bang)! IMHO I would have them checked out! Good Luck
  • On my car i had a wire break on the ABS sensor. It was hard to find but I finally found it. Mine didn't bang or beep but the light came on.

Caution: you need to find the issue not just shut the beeper off. Normally if that light is on you ABS braking system is not working. You will still have brakes but the equalizing of the brakes will ot work. This could cause some serious stopping issues.

  • I'm guessing that you either totally lost your front or your rear brakes. The master cylinder is divided in two separate chambers to allow you to lose half of your brakes and still keep the other half. You really need to have things checked at a shop. A brake light that follows a loud noise is NOT a failed sensor. It is a real problem.
  • you are correct! Found that one of the brake lines had rusted out and was leaking brake fluid. filled it with brake fluid and it got us to the park in Florida. Had another issue with one of my Atwood levellers - called Good Sam and they sent a Service Tech who found that the jack had a shaft which had snapped - new one will arrive in a week. Safe trips to you all. Thank you for your comments and ideas as always you are very helpfull!
