AC Quit

My rear AC stopped working. When I turn it off with the thermostat, I hear a click around the breaker panel, and the same when I turn it on. Other than that, there are no sounds or responses from the unit. Any ideas?
  • you post you have a 2006 unit...those Dometics were prone to blowing start capacitors which are replaced on the roof ...4 dollar part...1 hour labor plus service call....mine blew on a 95 degree day when I had my gas unit parked in my brother in law's driveway...

It does - and it is messed up - but it has been bypassed, which is fine as long as I am always on 50 amp. I think it is the board in the control box inside the AC unit. UGH
  • Does your rig have an intellitec EMS?

Does the ems show a light for rear A/C?
as well as showing 30 or 50 amp shore power or genny running?

check the rear a/c 20 amp breaker in your A/C panel if the ems indicates it should be on.
There is a delay in this system, almost 3 minutes from when the EMS indicates power ison until the A/C's will actually start.
Mine might start either first, then wait a few before starting the second.

Either of my A/C's sometime blow their breaker in the 120v circuit panel, everything else looks normal but the compressor never fires off (fans will)
  • It does the same thing on shore or generator - I have turned it on and waited for hours. I have someone coming to look at it tomorrow. I can do most anything I need to inside, but not able to get on top and work on anything. Just thought there might be something simple that I was overlooking!
  • If the breaker isn't blowing, turn it on and wait a few minutes to see if the compressor comes on. If it does, your fan motor or start cap is bad. If nothing comes on you might have a bad relay, PTCR or start cap. If you are electrical take the shroud off, the sheet metal cover to the capacitors and take a look.

What about when the thermostat does that all by itself?
  • How long did you wait for it to come on? Does the fan come but not the compressor. Are you on shore power or generator? If shore power have you checked the circuit breaker at the pole? If generator have to checked the circuit breaker on the generator itself.
