Affects of Toad on Ford Transit Diesel

Have a 2017 Forester Ford Transit Diesel 2391. Love it. Wanted something easy to take anywhere and while outside measurement is only 26' found that we couldn't go everywhere we wanted on our trip this summer. So after 7500 miles this summer, we are considering what we said we positively wouldn't do-tow a car. It has to be exceptionally light weight and that's okay.

We are wondering how it will affect performance when climbing mountains and gas mileage. Anyone towing with the Ford Transit and would share their experience?

:) Hi, since you have a diesel, it won't affect gas mileage at all. :B
  • I have a larger rig and tow a heavy Cadillac SRX, but it appears the difference between towing and non towing is about 1.5 mpg less fuel economy at my steady 62 mph. I do feel a lot less power going up hills, but that is ok, I just go up at whatever speed the rig will go comfortably.
  • No experience but seem to recall the tow limit was 2500 lbs. Is that what your manual shows? This limits you to a fiberglass dune buggy (would be my ideal TOAD) or a Smart for Two, which can be found very reasonably priced. Also Geo Tracker 2 Dr or old Suzuki Sumari.
