air compressor

I've got a Viair 300P which works pretty well for me. There are several models to choose from. Nice compact and easy to store.

I purchased this model from Lowes last summer for the Motorhome and have been very happy with it. It is low profile enough that it fits in most outside compartments on the motorhome (although I drive with it under the bed since it does have some weight).

It is not as loud as other similar sized air compressors I've owned and it has come in handy around the garage as well as airing up tires.

x2 on BC's explanation. I thought a 100-PSI rating would adequately inflate 80-PSI rated tires. NOT enough margin. A compressor bought for Class C should have higher than 100. Difference with BC's compressor and mine is that mine won't last through a lot of running. And airing up an RV tire is a lot IF it's similar to what happened to me. Tire shop inflated my spare to 60. That's what I specified for front tires. And by the way, RV was borderline uncontrollable with 80-PSI in Front! Back to the spare. I keep it under the bed so I carried the little HF compressor inside and it took probably 10-mins to get to 80. Next time I used the compressor, about all it would produce was 30-PSI.
That Porter-Cable, 150-PSI and 5- or 6-GAL is much better. My SIL has one of those from Home Depot and it's good. I don't know if HF's with similar specs at a lower price, would perform as well. And more importantly, would it last as long...

Whatever you get must have enough oomph to get to 100psi in order to force air into tires that already have 70+#. I have to let pressure build up and then get air into tire without leaking out in the process. Have an older Campbell Hausfeld with 2 gallon tank, just barely inflates RV tires to 80# with patience and technique, fine for car and bike tires.

Speaking of Harbor Fright, I have their 120-VAC "100-PSI 3-Gallon" Pancake Compressor. I believe it's fundamentally same as the Hot Dog version with the same rating. It fits my storage compartment, and that was a big factor in the choice. NOT really adequate for 80-PSI vehicle tires. Great for finish nailing, bike, car, and trailer tires. But it struggles in the 70+ pressure range and will not last for long in frequent high pressure use.
Far from useless. My first one quit after 6 years use and for $40 on Super Coupon sale, I just got another one after looking at the alternatives.

The compressor i mentioned above looks very similar to the one IAMICHABOD talks about.

I really like my ViAir 88P. So much better than the cheapo ones I've owned. Quick and quiet.

If it had a 12v cigar plug... yes it was weak.

MV50 (amazon) should work far better as it clamps direct on a battery. (I have this one)
Viair is also excellent. Just a bit more money.

Ii have a B+ which seems to have less outside storage than a C. I found a compressor at Harbor Freight that is small and gets it's power from a DC battery. I checked it and the cables are long enough to reach from my coach batteries to all tires. I plan to use it only when tires need air and i am at a campsite. I don't know the name of it as it is in my MH which is in storage. I have never had to use it yet, so I don't know how long it would take to fill a tire. Since I only plan to use it in emergencies, I don't mind if it takes an extra 10 minutes to top off a tire. It is small enough to fit under my dinette seat. Before a trip, i use a bigger compressor in my garage.
