Air inlet

The air intake for my coach is on the roof, so I would imagine water can get in sometimes. I am going to replace the air intake hose which appears to be aluminum dryer vent hose. I keep finding splits and duct tape them.

My question is since this hose is not original, when I replace it, should I drill a small hole in the bend before it goes into the air cleaner to drain any water that might get in. Do any of you have this type of drain hole.

  • There should be some kind of water trap/water drain between the inlet and air cleaner.

And, I have never seen dryer hose of a diameter that I would want for the sole source of air for a diesel engine.

I am not saying it is dryer vent hose, but looks like it. It is 6 inches in diameter, I am going to replace it with aluminum chimney liner. So if I drill a small hole, it should not have a significant effect in the air intake.

  • Yes, 6" diameter is fine. You can also use smooth wall PVC which offers less restriction most materials.
