Aluminum roof repair,,

Hi, Our old motor home has a flat one piece aluminum roof. The aluminum is getting more and more tiny holes that are from the aluminum corroding. I have been caulking up the bad spots as they show up. Is there something I can coat the whole roof with to stop the leaks before the camper is junk from water damage? It needs to be something that will stand up to standing water.
  • My 1983 had a rooftop storage box. When I rebuilt the cabover, I discovered that the box would trap dirt and moisture underneath, which would turn acidic and cause corrosion. Only that spot had corrosion. My fix was to use U-Seal roof tape from Home Depot on the area, then I used Eternabond to double seal seams and all around the edges.

My advice is to identify why the roof is corroding and evaluate a spot repair. Wash the aluminum roof periodically and it should last the life of the RV. If it has already gotten damaged all over, then a liquid repair would be my choice. Bus Kote is another really well known product worth looking into.

  • if you plan on keeping it a while, get it rhino lined or similar.

  • From what I am finding it looks like liquid roof is the best stuff. Pretty expensive though, at least to me it is.
