another blown goodyear

Interesting post right above the Michelin topic. Dumped the GY's on my Jeep and dumped the Goodrich on my RV. Replaced both with Michelin and I simply could not be happier.

I'll never do another goodyear tire...

A few months ago, I got a minor vibration in the steering wheel.
A few weeks ago, it turned into a DEATH WOBBLE at 50 or more.

Now death wobble is scary enough in a jeep, in a 33,000 pound motorhome, it's check your drawers time.

The 5 year old G670's showed some weird wear in the outer bar. Plenty of tread left, no cracking, TPMS monitored and always properly inflated.
Had a shop check the front end, he said it was fine, tires were junk.

Put michelins on last week. what do you know, coach is smooth as silk again!

I've had bad luck with goodyears before, blowouts and rivering. Never again.

"RIVERING' seems to be only with the 22.5 inch tires. A "DEATH WOBBLE" is not caused by the tires. It is caused by something else. Like balance. Or something way out in the front end. Maybe something broken in the front end.

Brand new tires are ALWAYS "smooth as silk". I personally use Goodyears. 19.5". Third set. ONE blowout in Texas. Hit a piece of debris on I-10. That was not Goodyears fault. Or any tires (brand) fault. S**t happens.

I've had rivering with 19.5" Goodyears. More than one too.
It's a weird thing, tho it doesn't hurt anything and is not cause to replace a tire.

death wobble is a strong indicator of an out of round tire due to failure of cording.. With a 4.5 year life, your annual tire cost to maintain a reserve for Goodyear replacement is about 400 dollars per year. With Michelin a 5.5 year life is reasonable giving about the same annual reserve cost

Last year we bought a used rig with two year old 19.5 Goodyears. The test drive was unbelievable, the thing shook like a wet dog, going down the road. As soon as I got it home, I arranged for a truck tire shop to true the treads with a tire lathe. The right front was roughly 3/16" out of round, and produced a pile of shavings roughly the equal of two, gallon milk jugs. The other front was about half as bad. The shop foreman assured me that this would resolve the issue and told me to take it out on the highway for a test drive. The problem was better, but far from cured. Next they cut the other four tires. All were significantly out of round. This resulted in a ride that was dramatically smoother, which gave me an opportunity to discover an odd issue. The front would wander and the steering wheel would oscillate, as it was coming to a stop. Really an odd feeling. Back at the shop they lifted the front end and used an air spinner to get the wheels up to highway speed. As the right front slowed down, the whole front of the motorhome began to shake violently. Once it slowed down further, the extreme tread rivering was quite clear. Pretty shocking to see fairly new tires, with very little mileage on them, in that condition.

I'll give these things another year before they get tossed. I can't imagine using another Goodyear product on anything I own, at this point.

Had 2 blowouts on the same day with 5 year old G670's.

My wife recently had a blow out that included a punctured rim while driving our Flex. She never saw what hit the tire. She just heard it hit. Sometimes things get thrown across the road and people run over them. Other times things are just laying in the road and people do not see them and the tire goes flat because of the impact. Some times it is just bad luck and people run over things.

Many companies make many levels of products. I have not a bad word to say about my Michelins.
