Another Mirror Thread

Has anyone else been troubled with wasps or hornets building nests inside their mirrors? And after getting rid of them, how do you get behind the mirror to remove the nest? This is on an E450.
  • Try a clothes hanger. Maybe with a hook at the end. May have to drag it out in pieces. Be careful about the mechanism that move it.
  • Hang the nozzel of a vacuum cleaner at their entry point and leave it there for a couple of hours.
  • I'd try a nozzle on a garden hose and flush it out. You can possibly get a little better access by tilting the mirror in the housing.
  • If it is the typical Velvac mirror that is in use on most Class Cs.
You can remove the mirror head from the arm, and as you can see in the photo there is plenty room around the shaft on both sides to put a screwdriver or something else down beside it and fish out anything that is in there.

I would think that is how they got in there in the first place.
  • They're getting in between the mirror and the housing. There are none in there now. I think I'll try the bent hanger method of removing the nest. Thanks for all the help.
