Well, I shouldn't have just ignored when I first saw them around the ground outside the MH. Seen them while doing outside maintenance and washing. Some were on the power cord from the outside box into the bay. We keep ours in a black top paved storage yard. Ours backs to a fence with a field on the other side.We just got back from camping this weekend and killed about 10 or so inside over 4 days. These were those black ants. Put some ant baits in the MH and at the electrical cord coming in the bay. Hopefully it handles the problem.Any other better ideas? It's the first year we had a problem.

we use a product called Amdrol- ants take the granules back to the queen and it kills her off then the ants disappear. have used at the house and around the camper when the ants would get bad, does a great job. purchased at Lowes.

X2 on boric acid powder. Use it inside to get rid of the existing herd but it can also be sprinkled around the outside of the RV where anything contacts the ground (power, sewer, water hoses and tires).

I have used this formula a few times with good results:Borax will kill odorous house ants, and powdered sugar will attract them. Make a homemade bait by thoroughly mixing one part borax with 3 parts powdered sugar. Fill tiny containers (such as bottle caps) with this homemade bait and place them as close to the place where you suspect ants are entering your house. If you see trails of ants, place small containers of the mixture directly in their path. This prevents most of them from traveling all around your house if they have easy access to this sugary treat.(Have pets or kids who might get into this powdery mixture? Try this instead: mix one cup warm water with ½ cup sugar and 3 tablespoons borax. Soak it up with cotton balls and place them in shallow dishes near ant trails.)Resist the urge to kill all the ants you see. They will carry the bait back to the nest, unable to differentiate between the borax and sugar, and the borax particles will eventually kill the entire colony. The more ants that are allowed to find the bait and carry it back, the faster the colony will die off.

There are several web pages on the internet to validate my claim that dried molasses sprinkled on the ground will kill ants. Articles on the internet say it works only for fire ants, but I've been using dried molassas around my home(s) for many, many years and it rids all kinds of ants for me; big ones, little ones, black ones, brown ones.Dried molasses is a horse feed supplement, designed to be mixed with horse feed as a sweetener. It won't hurt any animals, birds, people, or anything, but is deadly to ants. Sprinkle it generously around your camper, on top of ant hills, and even fill bottle caps with it and put it under your refrigerator or on your counters wherever you see ants. The ants carry it back to the nest, they eat it.Ants are exo-skelletin (hard shelled). The ants eat the dried molasses and then it expands inside them, literally blowing them up killing them. It IS very efective. I purchase it in 50 pound bags from a local farming elevator that supplies animal feed to farmers. A 50 pound bag can be used up very quick, or may take years. As the years have gone by, I've had to use less and less. None inside the house any more, and only occasinally in the yard now when I see a new ant hill when mowing the grass. My last 50 pound bag has hung around for 3 years now, and I still have plenty left. Initially, I ran through a couple hundred pounds, sprinkling the yard like grass fertlizer. It worked, kills the ants. Birds got fed, dog loved rolling around in the grass, and my bare feet smelled sweet! (It has a really nice smell). Most important, ants disappeared... almost completely on the acre I live on!Wet molasses will not work. It has to be dried so when it gets wet, it expands.

We moved into an old farm house and had ants everywhere. We used the liquid Terro. It already has the borax in it. One application and we didn't have anymore ants for 10 years (when we moved out)!

Borax around anything that touches the ground (tires, jacks, etc). We also try to make sure the water hose and electric plug wire do not touch the ground at all so as to eliminate a path for them to get to the camper. Once a few years back I had a tree branch touch the roof, and OMG a gazillion ants all over and in the camper. Now one of my final checks is to ensure no tree branches touch the roof or any part of our camper.

Outside the RV I use Ortho Home Defense Max. I spray the power cable, hoses, tires, and anything else that touches the ground, it controls them well. It even kills fire ant mounds when I find one near the RV at a campground.

Take your food, pots, pans, utensils, sheets, towels and bed spread off the bed. Buy two raid pesticide foggers. Set them off at each end of your coach and get out of the motorhome. After 24 hours, open it up and let it air out. Once you've done that, your good for a couple of years. Not only does it take care of ants, it takes care of spiders, roaches, and mice. My son was born with a disability where he was not able to get away from swarming ants. We went to see my brother in Georgia. I heard my son squirming around on the baby monitor and went in to check on him. I found ants crawling on him. I even spray my power cord and around my tires with a pesticide when parked.

We had an ant problem at home many years ago. We tried everything at the time we knew of. This was before the Internet age so getting info was not readily available. What did finally work was to put cucumber rinds around the area they were getting in. They avoided the cucumber like the plague and went elsewhere.

Food grade diatomaceous earth. It's very inexpensive, non-toxic to pets and easy to find. We get ours at Home Depot in the garden department. I even use it in the veggie beds to eliminate the little creepy crawlies that eat up the seedlings. It even gets those pesky slugs, but doesn't harm the earthworms.

Yup. Once you go to Florida you learn everything about ants.:(

I use Sevin around the tires AND around all the cords/hoses coming from the MH. Only use the 'powder'. The granules are poison to pets. AND I always keep ant bait under all the sinks and couch.

If you already have them IN your MH the ant bait does take quite some time to work. Here is a new ant killer tip I just found yesterday that is supposed to kill them instantly.

Snippet from ant tip website:
Ingredients:

– 1 cup of warm water
– 1/2 cup of sugar,
– 2 tablespoons of Borax.
- cotton balls

Soak the Borax mixture up with cotton balls, and then place the cotton balls near any trails the ants have established in your home.

I’ve tried this recipe at my home, setting out the cotton balls at night and waking up to find dead ants. Works like a charm.

Thanks for all the replies. I wrote them all down. I did use the Raid ant bait. Suppose to kill the whole colony. We'll see in a couple days. I'll go back and check.
