Anyone replaced the flooring in their class C with a slide?

After replacing our kitchen floor at home with Allure from Home Depot with great results, I think we're ready to do it in our Winnie once the temps warm up outside (we're dreaming on this winter day).

We have sheet vinyl in there now that we plan to remove and replace with the Allure vinyl planks. We've been able to find some posts and videos out there on the web, but not a ton of specifics on how they tackled the area under slide.

So has anyone done this? Any tips and tricks?
  • Thanks for the feedback so far! I'll keep the rollers and carpet approaches in mind. We pulled carpeting out of our house that was over hardwood floors...I'm imagining the same staple pulling fun that we had then ;)

And Ron, thanks for sharing pics - it looks great!
  • Ron, your floor looks just like ours. beautiful job!!! Love the knee pads,I could not have done ours with out them.
  • I have a 99 Chieftain with 1 slide.
I just replaced all carpeting and old flooring with the Allure click flooring. Under the slide was a real chore. Had to remove the old flooring, a million staples and various screws and a slider system that would have scratched the new flooring to h**l.
Designed a roller system from various pieces so now the slide runs on rollers and seems to be smooth and should work well.
Used 13 boxes of flooring to replace all the floor. Looks awesome.
  • You have seen the post of people that say don't do it. I'm one of those that did it and could not be happier. Also assisted with several others.
It depends on what type of slide you have when comes how to do under slide. Mine is a flush slide when extended. I cut a piece of oak to allow carpet on slide to ride over. The rear slide is the bed and a closet. Removed mattress and panels to get at flooring under it and closet. I made oak pieces that retain flooring under closet and bed. Here are some pictures that show the pieces I cut plus other views of the project.
My flooring is almost 5 years old. Still looks great.
  • My wee blonde and I got sick and tired of trying to keep the rug clean in our 2004 jayco granite ridge. We bought it used two years ago and the first thing we did was have the rug cleaned. To us the rug still did not look good so I got MAD one day and tore the rug and all the linoleum out. If you do this be ready to spend a lot of time removing little staples out of the floor.(it took me two days to do that) After we removed all staples we covered the floor using the allure wood grain type of covering. This was the type that sticks together. After we finished with the flooring we put quarter round to finish off the look. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE TIME AND COST. It looks beautiful!!! If I did it again I think I would try the flooring that snaps together. IF I WASN`T such a computer dummy I would post pictures of the project. Keep me posted if you start this project. I almost forgot we have two slides in our MH and no problem with the new floor. GOOD LUCK Denny and the wee blond.
  • I'm also planning and have not made up my mind yet. I have seen comments about people not having good luck with the stick together Allure. Others may love it but I lean toward the snap together. If it wasn't for the weight I'd use smaller ceramic tile with flexible thin set and grout.

I did show the captain how cheap a couple 7,000 pond Dexter axles upgrades are though. :) This is in a 5er.
