Awning Enhancements vs Pop Up Shade

Have been thinking of adding the piece of fabric that extends to the ground for added Privacy. But the thought of taking it off and on seems like a big hassel especially if it gets windy. Basically the sides of the Awning are the most likely place you will need shade cloth. Been there done that with clamps and a piece of tarp and never works well. Thinking just buy a pop up shade that one person can set up and be done with it? with a one or more drop down privacy curtain? Any suggestions? thanks
  • I use a 10 X 10 pop-up canopy. Takes about 10 minutes to set it up with two people. I store it under the bed. I usually want to sit somewhere other than under the m/h awning.
  • They make custom front and angled side sun shades but they cost waaaay over 100's of dollars. Cause it's for an "RV". :R

Go to a big box store and get the same sun shade material.

Its' in the garden department. Usually it's on a roll and you buy what you need. Comes in a couple of different colors and thickness. And is real 'inexpensive'.

I bought what I needed and for around 4 bucks I bought a grommet kit. Add a couple of holes with the grommet kit and I hang it from my awning with those RV rubber slide in awning hooks.

They side ones I just clip on to the angled awning arms with those plastic black clips you get at lowes.

What a difference it makes keeping the sun out. Easy up and more importantly quick and easy down for when a storm comes up. And looks real nice too.

Just a note regarding a pop up canopies. Many CG's do not allow them. And they crash and burn if even the smallest windy storm comes thru.
  • We use a 2 piece sun screen for the awning. I leave a 4' section permanently attached to the roller tube and rolls up with the awning. It has a zipper and an additional 6 foot section that I zip on when we want more privacy or shade. Only takes a minute or 2 to add the second piece.
I also carry a 10'x12' canopy for times when we want to sit away from the patio or need more shade.
  • There are places that make them in 2 pieces, 1 pc. is about 1' long and stays on the awning tube, the second part attaches to the 1st part with velco.
  • We love our pop up shelter. Just be aware that some cg's don't allow them.
  • We have a pop up awning with both the privacy sides and the bug screen sides.

Maybe it's just where we camp, but more times than not the site doesn't lend itself to using the awning. There is often a better place to sit and the pop up awning can be setup anywhere.
