Banks power system question

Have a 2001 DP. About a year after I bought it (some time in 2002) I had the complete Banks Power system added to it. It has the Cummins 300 engine and has always run great. This is low mileage rig. We use it alot but live in Oregon so doesn't take many miles to get to the coast or the mountains. Anyway....

It has been sitting for about a year due to health problems. Health problems taken care of and took it out for trip last week. Drove great the first 30 miles. Then going up a hill I got no Turbo boost and while I didn't lose all power it did get down to about 45 going up the hill. This continued for about 3 or 4 miles and then everything started working fine. On the trip home everything was great and went up similar hill at 60 with no problems.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what might be the issue. My son has some mechanic knowledge and thinks it was just the fact that it had been sitting so long. Sensor got stuck and now is working.
Any other thoughts or might he be right???

The wastegate is normally closed. Too much boost opens it and it does not sound like you had too much boost... "going up a hill I got no Turbo boost".

OP, did you have black smoke out the exhaust during the the no boost up the hill?

I have a D7 dozer that does much the same after sitting and I think it's rust slowing the impeller down. Reving the engine up gets the turbo going and then it's good to go.
  • I would guess wastegate issue from sitting and stuck open releasing psi. Few miles loosened it up. They are very basic systems.
