Better way home from Branson

On the road for a while and went through Illinois and missed exit going through St Louis .I do not want to go back to Ohio going this route. There was so much road construction it looked like a war zone.Maybe go through Ten then 65 north to Indy. Any help would be great
  • I remember when it was a 2 lane with a quarter moon curb on each side, that served to channel water, creating a river up and down hills.

And a real challenge to a 14 yo new driver, when over-correcting to miss a truck going over that curb was scary. Even for his WW II vet, truck driver dad.
  • U.S. 60 is four lane with a large portion very new. Excellent road all the way to Sikeston, Mo.
  • Ah, From Spfd I think it is US 60 to Cabol, then 60/63 to West Plains turn off, then 60 on to Poplar bluff. 63 being odd numbered is a north/south highway, goes from Arkansas to Iowa. So from Branson take US 65 north to just south of Spfd, then US 60 east.

But the GPS should cover that. As said both are good highways with gentle hills and lots of truck stops,
  • I was raised in Missouri and 63 is a good hwy, the National Forest is nothing more that a lot of forest and land owned by them. There is no tourist attractions, unless you stop at the Missouri Dept of Conservation Tree farm. Other than that. You could take Hwy 60 east to Sikeston, and then on over to Paducah, Ky and up to 64 and across. Just depends if you like wide open spaces and not a lot of traffic or bumper to bumper on 44...

64/65 to Louisville, to 75 north to bryan.
  • Thanks for the info I was looking at going this way to but there is a National Forest you have to go through or does 63 go around Mark Twain,s Forest. We are in a gas rig 36 ft towing would there bee any Jays or truck stops on the way. Thanks again.
  • I would go north to Springfield, east on US60-63 to I-57 North to I-64 to Louisville, then north on I-65 to Indy. Be sure to take I-465 around Indy. They are closing the I-65 I-70 interchange to fix the bridge height. I wouldn't get on I-70 east at Indy. I would get on I-69 north to Fort Wayne. Haven't been on that road but I-70 is real bad at the Indiana Ohio line. (see other posts this forum)Lots of construction on I-70 between Indy and Ohio line. We're in Indy right now.
