Blown up class c

So I'm headed home to the campground we live in and I pass an older class c broke down on the side of the road. Being the swell guy I am and with way too much curiousity for my own good I go back.

Turns out the guy and his SO just bought the camper a day ago,had $500 of new tire put on the rear and he was driving the old girl home when I arrived. Chevy 3500 van camper with a 5.7 engine.

Crank it up and the good old sound of hammering rods,I used to be a GM tech. He says it's out of oil and he overheated it a little, full of oil and overheated a lot,no temp gauge working.

She shows up,I start it up,moment of silence for the recently deceased and she hits the roof saying she will have it towed back to seller as I try to watch the clouds go by.

I lit out of there before she figured out her doughhead hubby rode it into the ground. Poor guy......:R

Only plus to this is the 350/5.7 is about the cheapest most plentiful used engine out there. And, I don't think the older GM's would be as hard to pull as many newer setups.
That SBC engine holds up pretty well, but I briefly had a "Pontiac" (rebadged Chevy-something) with the 307 Small Block Chevy and it was tired. After all, swapped even for a used mower I was asking $45 for... How bad could it be, didn't smoke. Well, till I added oil... I left it at a friend's lot w/orders NOT to sell it, but he did, As Is, fortunately, and the kid was back in a few days, whining about a blown engine.
