Brakes

Replaced front brakes on motorhome and drove 325 miles and I noticed black dust on hubcaps. What would cause this?
  • I don't think they should smell, unless you've been riding the brakes. Don't be going down hills at 75 MPH.
  • As the brake pads seat and release the dust should there be a burnt odor?
  • Akebono pads make no dust. Put them on wife Mercedes and now don't have to wash wheels every 3 days.
Not sure you can buy them for RV.
  • Could be coal dust or carbon too. I lived in Ca next to the 710 freeway and my pickup would get black with carbon once a week and it would eat the paint off.

Yup, nothing to worry about. Also, some pads produce more dust than others. Depends on the composition of the pad.
