Buying from PPL Houston

I've been looking at coaches on the PPL website and wondering how well that works when you're an out of town buyer.

I get the impression that one puts up some earnest money than you have 5 days to get there an pick it up.

It would be interesting to hear from others that have goon through the PPL process.

Thanks for any input.
  • We bought A coach there, but we had already looked at it more than once and then the buyer dropped the price and we then put our earnest money down. It was a smooth purchase experience. They have a list of items that MUST work when the unit leaves the property. Any thing else you find wrong is negotiated by them between the buyer and seller. We were about 200 miles away at the time. Over all, purchase went very well for us. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert
  • There is an entire page on their website about " out of town purchasers" it explains the whole process, and there is a phone number to call if you have any questions.
  • I did not purchse from them however, when I visited they explained to me the earnest funds are for a "hold" on the MH you pick. Once you inspect and agree to the deal your earnest funds become part of the down payment. Your earnest funds are good for 1 vehicle at a time only, therefore you cant "spend" your earnest dollars on 3 different vehicles and pick one when you arrive. The earnest funds are good for 5 days only and if you do not show they are forfitted.

This is still the policy as far as I know, but it was 3 years ago.

  • I visited them once, and some of the units were not as nice as the pictures might indicate. I would look first, before committing 100%.
  • I live close to PPL (houston) - i go there for parts and to look around. ALL of the units is consigned, it would seem to me that you should be able to work with or talk directly to the seller.

I didn't buy from PPL, but i know folks who have, everyone says the experience was good.

I almost bought from MotorHome Specialist - and was very impressed (they only reason i mention them is because they are also in texas) - http://www.mhsrv.com

unless the earnest money is completely refundable i wouldn't even think of giving anyone $ w/out having seen a coach much less driven it.

I have not bought from there but that is what it says on their website. I would never put money down on an RV without first seeing it in person. I bought mine out of state from a private seller. I drove there prepared to purchase if it was what I was looking for, it was, I bought it and brought it home. If I was interested in a coach from PPL I would do the same thing.
