CA highway 46 from Paso Robles to Visalia

Would like some information on CA highway 46 and 198 from Paso Robles
to Visalia, CA. Will be traveling in a 37' motorhome, and towing
a Jeep Wrangler X. Thank you!
  • Remember James Dean died on Hwy 46. Watch for the memorial. If you don't know who James Dean was, never mind, you're too young :) ... Dennis
  • When I'm faced with unknown roads I like to use Google Maps (to actually see the road) and my trucker's atlas (to see if the road is approved for 18-wheelers). I've only had that trapped feeling once, in Arkansas, when I didn't preview the route and found myself on a narrow, winding road meant for motorcycles.

I assume that you mean 46 to 41 to 198 all is a good road. But where to on 198? Past Three Rivers anything over 22 feet is not allowed.

  • ?? 46 to 41 to 198 ?? I'm confused. I use 46 going toward Bakersfield. Use 41 going more northward toward Fresno/Visalia. 41 & 46 separate about 25+= miles E. of Paso Robles-

    JM2¢ ~~ YMMV
  • It’s a good highway and getting better as passing lanes are added. No real steep grades.
  • Great drive over our California coastal mountains. Few services after you leave El Paso de Robles however.
