Cable TV with matrix box

I have a new Winnebago Wuncruiser 38Q. This has the matrix box. I had a lot of trouble with the satellite but finally got it fixed by replacing the unit on roof and the box. My over the air works. Tonight was my first chance to try cable. I left the matrix off and went directly to the Samsung TV. It wanted to know if cable was standard, HRC or IRC. I tried all three and got no channels on scan. I then tried the auto and got no channels. It appears it is not getting a signal. I have done this easily with all my others but stalled here. What am I doing wrong.
  • If your antenna amp is on, it screws up the cable..turn it off...also make sure to select analog and digital scan when you scan for cable.
  • "Matrix Box"..another term for a switchbox? I have a passive (non-electric) Switchbox...use it for for cable/sat/ant...and have no problems getting anything. (For satellite, I have DirecTV/SD.)
  • Matrix is electronic switch that controls two dvr's, DVD, aux. Allows you to route all these devices to any Tv. So you can access either of the dvr's in lounge bedroom our outside. Over the air is direct from the antenna and booster. The booster is in the same old separate spot. My over the air works well but I can't get cable Not real important as I really like satellite but I like to understand how everything works. If it works. It seems like I need to switch something to get cable. I select it on tv and run the scans on auto. I am confused about what standard, HRC and IRC mean.

They are two old cable system for code filters. Were phasing out back in the early 2000 or before.

You left the Matrix off.. Some of them you can't do that some you can.

Did you select CABLE on the matrix box?

Finally.. When cable first came out TV's had like 61 Channels (2-62) and cable often had 100 or more so you had to have a "Set Top Box" to be able to see all the cable channels.. One per television.

Well over the years some TV makers (not all) put QAM detectors in the TV with the ability to tune 100 channels or more So you could simply put in a splitter and have cable in multiple rooms, without paying an additional per set fee.

SOME cable companies (I Will not name since I'm not sure) are getting nostalagic for the old days when you paid more for additional TV's (You can also say they are getting Greedy, more on that later) So they have gone to encrypting the signal so you once again need a set top box for every tv.

1,000/year for Television (Common size of bill) and they want MORE MORE MORE. Greedy legitimates need a slap down far as I am concerned.
  • WA8YXM: Only $1000? I'm currently paying $1300/yr. Of course, we all could eliminate "cable"...and simply go with a 1950's over-the-air antenna ONLY......

    That'll show 'em.....................
