Campground Question

On Wednesday, I checked in to a RV park near Dayton as I planned to visit the U.S. Air Force Museum.. The park advertised that it was the closest to WPAFB and that was the selling point for me.. I arrived and the park was older but clean, but when I registered the woman told me they did not have a credit card machine (I thought that was odd) and it was cash or personal check only.. I paid with a check for two nights (Wed and Thur night) and was taken to my pull thru.. The next morning (Thurs) I left in my RV as I did not have a towed car.. I visited the museum and returned to the park at 5 p.m. only to find a TT with slideouts in my space... All the other empty spots that were empty when I left were still empty.. I was livid and went to the office, were a different woman was working.. I asked her why there was another camper in my spot when I was paid up until Friday morning.. She told me that she thought I was not coming back and that they have a waiting list and she gave it to someone else.. I told her I counted 5 drive thrus that were the same as mine that were empty and you can not rent out a spot that was already paid for, and that was illegal.. She just smirked and said I could have drive thru lot 76 as it was nicer anyway and had shade... I took it and the next morning looked around and those same spots that were empty at 5 were still empty in the morning, so there was no waiting list.. Is it not illegal to do this?...

I'm done... This thread has taken a turn for the worst... It is not bad enough that I tried to warn people about a bad campground, One that a female cop was MURDERED at from a meth cooker who flipped out and was firing rounds into another camper, But now it is being judged on how clean the bathroom is and whether it was on fox news!... See ya folks, I am out of here!!...

The Good Sam ratings score are terrible as well. A five for a bathroom score is really low, and it gets no star for cleanliness. Those scores would be one reason they aren't a Good Sam Park, they don't qualify. It sure appears with all the reviews on rvparkreviews and the ratings from Good Sam this is a bad park that would be pretty easy to avoid.

Ok... It looks like people need to know about this place as after research this place is pretty bad... There were new rigs there a lot nicer than mine so I was not the only fly caught in the web.. and the reason I stayed here was I only needed a place were I could get off the road for the night with hookups.. The OP didn't want to name it, and I am not sure. However, the nearest town to Wright Patt is Springfield Ohio and there appears to only be one RV park that doesn't take credit cards located there. It also advertises it is the closest park to the Aviation Museum. Combine that with the fact the park has lousy reviews and I am pretty sure it is the winner. You can search Wright Patterson AFB on rvparkreviews and decide for yourself which park the guy is talking about.

I think the park is badly managed and the people at the front desk should have said they were sorry and they messed up. I would have pointed that out and contacted the park owners to tell them about what happened. Since you got another site, I would have just taken it at that point and gone on with my trip.

BTW - the Air Force museum at Wright Patterson is great and well worth the stop.

I agree with the OP. He paid for it and it was his for the duration. When he was shown to the site and it was designated as his for two days, there was a perimiter set for his occupation. He was entitiled to come and go all he wanted through the rental period. Now, he could have left something in the sight, which usually works, but who's to blame when, upon his return, it is missing and someone is in his sight. Though not obligated, he could have stopped by the office and let them know he was coming back, but again, not an obligation.

The real frustration has to be that when faced with someone else in your site, which you paid for, the on duty clerk take a ho-hum attitude. As someone else said earlier, good customer service, with at least what appeared to be a sincere appology, probably solved this quickly.

I would only have been angry (really only irritated at this point) if they didn't give me a spot and if the new spot was not as nice as my original spot. Angry would have come if a spot was NOT available.

Their book keeping methods are none of my business.

Personally, I would have told the office that I was leaving for the day but would be returning later.
