Can toll booths read transponder w/C overhang?

I don't think we owned a toll-paying transponder with our previous Class C. Now that we're back in one (and loving it!), a question popped into my head: Can the readers "see" or communicate with the transponder in its "proper" location next to the rear-view mirror?

I realize that many toll booths also offer toll-by-plate, but keeping track of that is a PITA.

I had a lot of trouble with my windshield mount, behind the mirror, BUT, only in NY on the Thruway, sometimes it would read it getting on, but not off, other times it would read getting off, but Not getting on, went with license plate mount, and haven't had another problem.

Thanks! I think that's what I will need to do, too, since my overhang has an "overhang" (dropped area along the front lower edge)

I mounted mine on the window above the overhead cab bed since it was having too many issues not reading on the front windshield. Obviously know that most newer units do NOT (thankfully) have the bedroom window leak-monster, but mine ain't leaking yet and check it quite often.

OK - thanks everyone!! We'll mount as low as possible but not blocking Ed's view and give it a whirl!

In Ca. I have all my vehicles under the plate ID and transponders. Have not had an issue.

Our I-Pass just sits on the dash at the base of the windshield. Seems to work.

On my F-150 it is in the center at the BOTTOM of the windshield, on the DP it is behind the mirror, and on all of my cars it is behind the mirror. With all of those vehicles I have had a problem at the middle toll on the WV turnpike while using the lane which takes both cash or transponder. Has always worked there at the transponder only lane. I guess you roll the dice.

I don't worry about it. If it doesn't register, I get an invoice from the state and pay it then.

There is a narrow area from which the scanner can "see" your transponder.

Originally, we placed ours a bit too high on the windshield and it scanned/worked about 75% of the time. A Toll Booth employee suggested we move our unit a two inches lower, no problems since.

Once you find the sweet spot, you should be good to go.
