car-fax

Is there such a thing as car-fax for class a motorhomes? if not give me some ideas on things to look for when looking at used ..
  • For your area, look for signs of flood damage, leaks, systems all function correctly.
  • Do a Google search for 'how to identify a flood motorhome.'
You will find several videos for inspecting flood/water damaged RV's.
  • The best way to tell if there has been any damage, from an accident, or a flood, is a very thorough inspection by a professional that knows what to look for.
As an example, we had our Jaguar automobile hit broadside by someone that ran a red light. State Farm totaled it, gave us a check, and sold the carcass to the dealer. The dealer repaired the extensive damage and sold the car within 30 days to an overseas buyer, with a clean CarFax. Apparently it takes awhile for the paperwork to catch up with a CarFax report.
The Chevrolet HHR that we are now using as a toad was purchased from Enterprise rental after it had received some minor hail damage. The out the door price was about 1/3 the MSRP for an 8,000 mile vehicle. The minor hail damage was enough to take the vehicle out of service as a rental, but since Enterprise Rental self-insures, there was no report to CarFax. I received a clean title. In other words, if you pull a CarFax report on my vehicle, it shows "no problems found" under hail damage. Basically what I am saying is do not trust a CarFax report to give you all of the information about possible problems with any vehicle.

That is probably the best way but, it's not realistic to have a pro thoroughly inspect every RV that interests you.
Learn what to look for, eliminate the junk, when you are serious about one call in the pro.
  • Get the VIN and plug it into Carfax, if there are any records registered they should show up. Did that with one I wanted to buy and 24 records showed up(not all good), I passed on that one. Also try putting the VIN into Google search and see what they find. Same unit showed up with 56 records, including a repo and several tows.
  • If it has a VIN than there will be a car-fax, however car-fax is not always accurate, some repair shops don't insert the info every time, also mistakes are also made, I had a 2002 Flair that showed the mileage jump 100,000 miles in one year that went back down the next, car-fax is a guide but not factual of its history.
