The "which lane is best thing" has all changed. The advisory is to stay in which ever lane, since they both should merge at the lane closure for the greatest ease in time of all vehicles merging to fewer lanes. Old thinking used to be; get in the through lane, then drive-by all those unfortunate enough to be in the closed lane(s). It's all changed for the better. Just stay in your lane - no need to outmaneuver those in closed lanes, because the closed lanes are faster because of the rush to get into the looong line of vehicles in the through lane.;)
