Changing tire and rim size

Hello. I have a 98 Fleetwood Bounder 34V (35 ft.) with 16 rims and 235/85/16 tires would is be beneficial to change to the 19.5 rims with appropriate tire size. Because I notice most class A's have larger rims then I do. The 16 in wheels and tires seem to ride good I keep them properly aired to 80 psi cold
  • if the 16s work for you, why waste the time/money? tire envy? :)
    bumpy
  • I don't believe you'd have clearance for the 19.5" wheels.

Your chassis is a pre '98 chassis. The 19.5s came with the newer '99 chassis. Completely different animal.
  • Speedometer would be all messed up because it is calibrated to the smaller wheel. You would be going faster than indicated. Much faster!
  • I can change a 16 wheel and tire; I don't want to think about trying to lift a 19.5 tire and wheel.
  • Thanks everyone your advise make great sense. I'll stay with my original 16 inch wheels and tires

It’s the overall height of the tire that would make your speedometer read wrong, not the rim size.
On my Jeep, I was able to change the speedo gear to make it read the actual speed being driven. Confirmed it with gps.

My motorhome reads 4 mph slower than what the speedo says. GPS confirmed.
And that is with Factory OEM tires and rims.

There are numerous calculators online to determine rpm and speed with different size tires. I am sure you could figure it out mathematically, but that makes my head hurt.

Using this calculator puts you at 1/2 mile per hour faster at 60 mph with 19.5 tires.

The only question then becomes clearance issues as were previously mentioned.

235/85R16 tire has a 32" diameter. OEM tire on the OPs coach.
225/75R19.5 tire has a 31.9" diameter. Tire size normally used to replace OEM 16" tires.

That's for the info. I have been away from my PC today and hadn't had a chance to look that up.
