Check light on refrigeator

Last night I noticed the check light lit on the refrigerator and to make a long story short I found the GFI outlet in the bathroom tripped causing several outlets to stop working. We have a Damon Challenger I hope this may help someone else and save them a lot of searching.
  • Interesting.

Why, when it lost 120 VAC did it not just automatically switch to propane? That would not cause the check light to come on unless gas mode failed.

Check light means the flame sensor did not detect flame.

So if the GFCI tripped and killed 120vac to the fridge.. (Stupid way to wire it no need for GFCI to a fridge) it will TRY to switch to propane.. IF, you have any AND it's turned on. If the tank is dry or the valve is closed.. Propane won't happen. (Check Light will however)

Likewise if insects have nested in the burner orifice, or of there is some othe rproblem with the DSI system or the flame senser or control.
  • On a side note, if the GFCI is tripping because of the fridge then the heater element needs to be replaced.
  • Two separate problems....

The 120V AC power for fridge shutdown due to the GFCI tripping......WHY did it trip?

The check light came on because when fridge lost 120V AC power it swapped to propane operation and it didn't lite off..so check light came on...WHY didn't it work on propane?
  • I think the GFCI tripped because I washed the MH and may have got water in the vents. It was dark last night when it happened and has been raining all day today maybe tomorrow Ill get a chance to look at it.
  • My 120v plug for my fridge is mounted on the floor near the bottom exterior vent panel. It has to be GFCI due to being mounted in that location, just like all of my other 120V plugs that are located in basement compartments.

My converter is also on the GFCI circuit, as it's mounted on the floor under my drawers in the kitchen. When the GFCI is tripped, no more charge to the batts. No charge to the batts means that the voltage is going do drop on the batts, depending on how much draw there is on them.
Whether on LP or 120V operation, your fridge will still need 12VDC to operate the control board.
So it's possible that your batt level dropped to the point where the control board didn't have enough juice, and you got the "CHECK" light.

Complex things, these movable houses ;)

  • sometimes after sitting awhile you have to bleed the air out of the lines by liting the stove burners etc. or the fridge will try 3 times then lock out same as hot water heater. the check light comes on after failure to light as stated by others. Shut it all off about 5 mins then bleed stove gas by liting and shut off. then try.
