Chevy Rims

I have a 2014 4500 Chev, it came with no spare. Instead of buying a steel wheel/tire of a spare, I'm thinking about putting aluminum rims on the front. Anyone here done a aluminum rim on their Chev based unit ?
  • Are you really going to change a tire on the side of the road with your motorhome? Carry the proper tools to break the lugs and torque them back up (usually 140-160 ft*lbs)? And, find a compartment to store a full size spare??
  • I had problems with the aluminum wheels on our Explorer sticking to the steel hubs due to the corrosion caused by the dissimilar metals. I cleaned the surfaces and then put a thin layer of nickel-based antiseize to prevent future problems.
  • My Chevy, now ten years old, has factory aluminum rims and a spare. They have caused no trouble even on 4x4 roads. It is a 2500HD, so perhaps this is not useful info for your 4500.
