Class A Security System

I have wanted to add a security camera system to my RV for some time and would like to take the plunge now.

I would like the cameras to be day and night, battery powered, and wireless. I would like the receiver to connect to the internet so I can see the cameras on my cell phone when away.

Anyone installed a system like this, or know of one ?

Thanks

  • If you mean individual batteries for each camera, I think you won't be happy in the long term because of short battery life. I would use POE (power over Ethernet) cameras with the router powered by 12v from the house batteries. Solar to maintain if you're not plugged in.

There are systems that will work without fixed IP, I have one. Uses DNS.

Some cellular hotspots will not support the port forwarding features typically used to remotely access the system. Wireless companies are not enthusiastic about supporting servers.

Most people would do better hiring this done by a security company because it is not just plug and play. If you want reliability.

courtesy clicky for above What would you use for a high-speed Internet connection?

I'm surprised SimpliSafe never came out with cameras for their system. (Maybe because of the HSIA issue?)

  • I have that type of system in my stick house where I have power all of the time and internet access all of the time. You need a static IP address for it to work seamlessly for cell phone access, not a dynamic IP address like most accessible internet services have while you are on the road.
  • Will pull down a battery fast. If you are plug into shore power then look a good home system. Do you have wifi close to it to connect to.
