Looks like I will be replacing my coach batteries in the near future, they (only have 2) aren't holding a charge very long, this happened a few months ago & I found they were low on water & the cable hookups needed cleaning very bad, I fixed this problem, but now they are not holding the charge again for more than a few weeks & I do have the 12 volt switch in the off position when at home. What batteries should I be looking to buy, we only use the RV about 6 months of the year & that only for 3 or 4 days at a time.

Open ended question ,,,,do you boon dock?What was there before?Do you have an on board inverter and use high draw appliances?Do you have solar?What converter do you have? WFCO, Progressive. etcDo you use a generator?Are you plugged in all the time?

If your maintenance habits don't improve, get AGMs. No water, no corrosion. Yes, more money, but well worth it.

cheapest you can find and disconnect the negative battery cable when not in use. Ensure you charge them up a few days worth before you disconnect them. They are not going to last 4 or 5 days without charging them. Higher end battery will last a longer but not 4/5 days without a charge if being used.

Solar is the easy way to charge batteries and keep them charged during RV hibernation.

You can get golf cart batteries Inerstate GC-2 (6v) at Costco for under $100 probably the same price at Sams Club. They will need water AT LEAST once a month. Use distilled water only.

I replaced all my house batteries with Interstate rated the same as the originals.
The ones I have now I replaced in 2013. I keep them charged all the time with a trickle charger.
If I can’t keep it plugged in, I use the power cut off for long term.
If you don’t have a power cut off in you unit, it’s easy to add one to your batteries.
They will last.
Also, I use the easy fill battery fill system I got at Camping world to add distilled water.
Makes it easy to add and you can’t overfill.

Rural King has 6v golf cart batteries for 79.99 and there is no membership at these stores, if there might be one near you.
About to replace six in my golf cart and will go this route as well.
Sam's Club are $90 with a membership, so.....
For our coach, we bit the bullet when we purchased in 16 and went with four 12v AGM's. Yep, expensive, but no more checking and watering, which is a real pain, on our coach.

I'm not saying they'll last any longer - I doubt they will, the last set lasted 9 years.

What the mineral oil has done is greatly reduce my needed maintenance and all of the out-gassing corrosion.

And?

You could try equalizing them with a good overcharge before replacing them. That will sometimes bring them back from the abuse of running out of water.

Do you have an inverter with that capability?

Thanks for the info guys...I am going to try the Battery Tender that I used on my Goldwing when I wasn't riding...if this doesn't work I will get the agm batteries.
