Cold weather camping.

Thanks for posting that link to electrical tank heaters. Our RV came with the coach battery powered version of these so they can be operated when traveling or when drycamping in cold weather, to keep tanks from freezing in either situation (I believe they used to also offer a 120 volt AC version).

To help everyone out give us a few details. Where is your water tank? Any pipe's outside the unit?

On our Jayco I just put the pink stuff in just for the toilet and have a 5 gallon water jug for everything else. Granted can't use anything else. None of our pipes are outside just the water tank. Eventually I'll like to put a 20+ gallon under the bed and plumb it so it doesn't go outside. That way I can put a small heater in there and just put pink stuff in the tank underneath.

When we use the rv to spend the night snowmobile it's usually just one night.
If longer then that we go to that one place that has heated bathrooms/showers..25 a night with electric..only 20 amp but hey..lol.
if overnight boondocking in the winter we still use the bathroom in the rv for number one. I just put 4 or 5 gallons of the pink rv stuff in first and it has never been a problem, yet.
When it's gets below 20f out the furnace runs a lot but still never seems to use much propane .

Coldest we have camped is about 20 degree nights. Dusting of snow. We'd like to do more winter camping now that we live in a cold climate though. I'm trying out a tank heating system right now.

Frosty days never kept us home. But, one 10 degree night up in Alberta, Canada in our pop up 4-Wheel truck camper convinced me that my tent was going to get passed on. Maybe it was the propane forced air furnace. Who knows?

We'll go at least once in November.. not sure if we'll going any from December to March. If it was just the wife and I would be much easier since ours isn't 4 seasons yet. Have to depend on bath houses.. although it's a invigorating walk from the shower to the RV! Really need to get a dehumidifier though.
