We are in the middle of our road trip. Our windshield has a crack that is spreading like wildfire! Is there a way to stop it from getting worse? We would also appreciate suggestions on where to have it replaced.

RVHanna, it might help if you can tell us where you are. 'In the middle of a road trip' could put you just about anywhere. There is a procedure to stop the 'run' as they can drill a small place in the windshield. Your insurance may replace the windshield as cracks can reflect the sun blinding you.I had two 'stars' repaired on our previous coach. One was totally invisible, the other was not but they did not run after the repair.They say just as soon as you get a rock chip, stop the coach, put a piece of tape over the hit as not to get dirt and dust in the hole. That will make for a cleaner repair.Good luck,MM.

Contact http://www.rvglassexperts.com/ - they have glass shops all over the country and they do excellent work. They can either patch the windshield to stop the crack as a temporary fix, or get a replacement installed within a few days. Extremely easy folks to work with.al

You can also go to the big box store or one of the auto parts stores and get a Windshield repair kit. You use the liquid in the kit to saturate the crack and then put the plastic liners over the crack. After curing, take off the plastic and smooth with the included razor blade and done. It it did not completely fill, and you can tell by looking, do it a second time. We did that to a crack over a year ago and it has not moved at all. Just did a rock star last week and nearly invisible. It may not work for you, but did work for us. Hope this may help, happy trails Bert

I believe the kits are not recommended if the crack is bigger than a dollar bill.Also, if you try drilling front glass it will explode into thousands of pieces. Its tempered.Call your insurance company. Progressive called Duncan Systems and had me a new glass shipped and installed a 2 days. Mine didn't cost me a nickle as Florida has a law that says no deductible on front glass.

A mobile service can come to you and replace the windshield in short order and are usually sent out by insurance companies. In the state of FL and by law, windshield's are replaced free of charge, regardless of any Insurance deductibles.

If the crack is 6" or less Safelite can fix it.

This happened to us on this trip. Called our I insurance company that has a separate RV glass hotline-they sent a company out to fix the crack at no cost to us.

Many insurance companies pay for the entire repair/replacement, with no deductible. First call should be to them and find out.

No tempered windshield----don't know if they ever tried that as they don't chip, they explode into a million pieces-----

I once purchased a diamond drill bit at the big box store, and drilled the run at both ends. The glass didn't explode. It worked for me, but in hindsight, I should have just taken it to someone to have it repaired.

Front glass is laminated not tempered. That's why the whole thing didn't shatter with the rock chip.

contact your insurance agent. he should be able to refer you to an agent in your area who should be able to give you a list of approved repair shops.
