- kiwi_osExplorerI have the 8.3 in a 93 Safari here in NZ
Motor runs like a dream and has never missed a beat. Our legal limit for this size unit is 90kph (56 miles per hour)and with the Allison 6 speed gearbox we are normally doing about 1600rpm for the limit.
I pull a Ford Courier utility as my toad, and the engine has no problem sticking at the limit even on long climbs. - wolfe10ExplorerExcellent engine. As with any larger diesel there a few maintenance issues (very low cost) that are unique to them and important-- such as SCA in the coolant.
- wny_pat1ExplorerShe isn't a speed demon, but she will consistently pull and get good mileage while doing it. But don't expect to go flying by everybody. But she will be happy running 60 mph, day, after day, after day, all day long, for many years.
- John___AngelaExplorer2005 might be 350. Our 2003 is.
- wolfe10ExplorerSpeed on grade really depends on weight/HP. Since we don't know what coach it is in, really no way we can know what performance will be like.
Could be in a 22,000 pound coach or 33,000 pound coach. BIG difference. - Don_DonExplorerI have it in a 2005 Monaco. Been flawless. Great power, no problems whatsoever
- GreyghostExplorerIf it has the same capabilities as the ISL it can be programmed for any of the HPs listed below. On the build sheet for my MH the engine is listed as a 350 ISL but it has been factory reprogrammed for 400HP.
Cummins 8.3 ISC
Firetruck/motorhome/truckFiretruck/motorhome/truck
1,050 pound force-feet (1,424 N·m) @ 1,300 rpm, 310 horsepower (231 kW; 314 PS) electronically governed at 2,500 rpm
1,150 pound force-feet (1,559 N·m) @ 1,300 rpm, 330 horsepower (246 kW; 335 PS) electronically governed at 2,500 rpm
1,200 pound force-feet (1,627 N·m) @ 1,300 rpm, 400 horsepower (298 kW; 406 PS) electronically governed at 2,400 rpm - Sully2Explorer

WRONGO!! You cant re-program an ISC to any higher HP rating than a factory made engine of the same series. If for example the highest made factory ISC was rated at say 370 HP....then the highest you can have another ISC re-programmed is ....370 HP.
Your ISL engine was re-programmed to the specs of a factory produced 400 ISL...nothing more - pitchindad1ExplorerI have one in a 2004 Holiday Rambler with 106,000 miles. It has run flawless over the 8 years I have owned it. I keep up with the maintenance myself. It hasn't missed a beat yet. I wouldn't be scared to buy another one if I knew someone had done the routine maintenance. By the way it had fewer than 26,000 when I bought it so I have put some miles on this motorhome. Towed a car 06 Ponatic, and boat 22'.
