cummins air compressor coolant line leak

Hi All,
Got home to MD and recognized antifreeze all over the back hatch. Found leak in line the goes into the top of the air compressor. Can anyone tell me where the other end connects. It is an ISL 400, 07 Dynasty with Aqua hot. The line is wire tied to the trans fluid fill pipe on right hand side of the engine. I tried to trace but was hit with leaking coolant and with the snow hitting us now, will have to try and trace another day. Just thought would ask if anyone would know. Too, it appears that it is leaking at the corroded coupler.
Thanks,
Dan
  • Hi MM,
No, have never had to change out cooler box, but with this issue will check the entire system/pressures once I change out steel coolant line and burp the sys. I have had to change the pressure cap though.
    Thanks,
    Dan
  • Dan, thanks for the update. We don't travel in winter weather so I have never notice any corrosion. I will take a look at mine just to make sure.

Have you ever had to change out your coolant box?

  • Hi MM,
Bitter cold here, but managed to get some pics to send to Cummins. It appears I sprung a leak on the fixed steel line coming out of the air compressor. Looks like corrosion and at the point where the trans fluid fill tube was wire tied to coolant. We don't travel much in snow areas but do rinse after. This appears to be a place where either road salt/moisture has been the reason line corroded. Will fix and relocate tie off of trans fluid fill tube.
    Thanks,
    Dan
  • Hi Dan,
Our last antifreeze leak was at the top of the coolant box. I'm on my 4th box counting the original. It looks like this fix is working as I think there was a group of faulty boxes. The original and second box lost pressure (second box replaced under warranty). The third box started leaking at the top of the box in summer of 2012, lasted about a year and I replaced it in summer 2013 with the 4th one.

I thought the leak was just at the fittings of the hose to the top of the box but tightening them didn't help. Then, I could see the leak was where the insert/connectors built into the top of the box were leaking.

    Good luck,
    MM.
