This question is like those stupid posts on Facebook where someone posts a picture of a potato masher and says "Can anyone name what this is used for?" Criminy, I have one in my drawer in the kitchen. It's really not old, it's just you idiots that have never mashed you own potatoes think it's this marvel of an age gone by.
As long as you can handle the regular tasks of setup and moving on, age does not matter. I sold my gasser to a guy in his fifties and I wondered if he'd be able to do what needed to be done. It's not your age but whether or not you can mash potatoes by hand that counts.
