Ron, if it would lower my insurance rate I would buy one tomorrow!
I guess all that you have to do is contact your insurance agent. The article says that some companies offer a discount but the article pertains mainly to the UK. I would guess that as they become more numerous, and are tested in court, that the insurance companies will start to encourage their use.
Right now they only have the black boxes on the automobiles to use to determine what was happening to a vehicle before an accident. These are not on RV's and they do not give any information about what the other driver was doing leading up to an accident. - J-RoosterExplorerRon, if it would lower my insurance rate I would buy one tomorrow!

I use my Galaxie S5 for a GPS and it sits alongside my dash, where I can see it without it being in the way.
As far as the Dash cams are concerned what are some good ones under $100?
Though I use a Garmin in my truck, I use a Thinkware H50 dash cam as a security camera. - BigdogExplorerI use my Galaxie S5 for a GPS and it sits alongside my dash, where I can see it without it being in the way.

Of course those that are accident prone may not want one in their vehicle so as not to incriminate themselves. :B
And definitely don't set your beer on the dashboard in front of the camera...:S - n0arpExplorer

Garmin Dash Cam 35 here. Works great.
Quite a but of your view blocked with that setup.
Actually not at all. It only appears that way because of the angle I took it at. I have a full unobstructed view of the road from the driving position.
However, as an aside, I've dropped the GPS down about another inch since then and moved it further towards the driver because I fabricated a more stable mount. - msmith1199Explorer II

Quite a but of your view blocked with that setup. - DuctapeExplorerI would like to have one to capture the wildlife that pops up and then runs before you can get your camera booted up.
Would appreciate any reports of users with a good hi res cam for this purpose.
I tried a GoPro a couple of years ago for this and it was a glitchy unreliable piece of junk. - n0arpExplorer

Edit: picture to show visibility with the setup, since it was mentioned.
