Dimm Lights / 9.35 volts

On shore power my lights get dimm and when I do voltage check it shows about 9.3 volts. ( on 50 amp service)Checked water in batteries all O K. batteries about 15 months. NOW This I don't understand. When I run engine for about 30 seconds light get bright and voltsge returns to about 11.80???????
  • Definitely a converter issue.
Either converter is bad, or the GFI circuit that it's plugged in to is tripped.
Does the AC outlet in your kitchen or bathroom work? If so, then the circuit is likely OK. To be 100% sure, unplug the converter from it's outlet, run an extension cord to a known good source, and plug your converter into the extension cord. If it's still not putting out somewhere above 13 volts, then the converter is toasted. Some have breakers on them, some do not.

    I replaced mine through Amazon.com

You can go right down and get a 10+ amp battery charger and slap it direct on the battery until you get the rest sorted out. Batteries are sulfating quickly at 9 volts.

  • Make sure the breaker in the coach for the converter did not trip. Usually a 15amp breaker. If this tripped the converter would not pass a charge to the battery.

  • My guess is you are not receiving the flow through from your shore power so you're simply running off your batteries even though you're hooked up to the pedestal. When you run your engine, you're getting the power from your engine's alternator.

Make sure the breaker is on at the pedestal.
Check to make sure you're getting power into the coach.
Have you run your generator to see if there's any change?
Check the push button breaker on your inverter/converter.

Let us know what you find...Dennis
  • Makes perfect sense.

Your converter, charger or inverter/charger is NOT working.

    But you alternator is.

You need to troubleshoot your 120 VAC to 12 VDC charger.
