dirty film on windows

Have a dirty film on side windows of motor home that I can't seem to get off, it's almost like a wax. Tried mineral spirits as well as vinegar. Vinegar seemed to help but it still there. Any suggestions on what I can use to clean the windows. What about Bar Keeps friend? It can be used on shower doors, tile fiberglass etc.
  • I recently used liquid Barkeepers Friend on a Mothers sponge ball on my drill and it took the hard water streaks off of my windows. The streaks looked to have been on there for a long time. They came right off and the glass looks like new.

As I recall I wet the glass with a rag and then used the BF and wiped them with another wet rag and dried them. Not a streak left.

Get a clay bar at any auto parts place or wally world. Rub the glass and it will take off the crud
  • Use Lime-away on a rag/sponge and rubber gloves. This will remove any calcium deposits and other dried deposits from moisture. Keep it away from painted surfaces and rinse thoroughly after you clean the window.
  • If it's not an internal film on a dual pane, I've had the best luck with ultra-fine polishing compound from an auto paint shop. Just tell them what you want it for and they will sell you the right thing.

Are you sure it is not the film on the inside of a dual pane window?

  • 0000 steel wool is used on windows and headlight housings to clean them. It will rust quickly if left damp. Do not reuse if you get it wet.
