Door Hinges

I have a 1994 Georgie Boy Swinger, owned since new. Have about 235000 miles on the odometer. The door hinge spacers are badly worn and the door has sunk relative to the door frame. This makes opening and closing the door difficult due to binding at the sill and misalignement of the lock components. The door Says ALUMAX on the frame.

I am not able so far to drive out the hinge pins to try to install washers to restore the door position relative to the frame. Anyone have any experience with this?
  • If soaking does not work, then cut a chunk out of the washers and stack them to you get the required clearance. Then glue them together. If beyond that replace the door if you can find one.
  • If you can post pictures it would really help, especially on the door spacers.

I have a 1996 GB Swinger and had the same problem, I fixed it as mountainare described. I used copper washers cut slightly smaller than the pin lifted the door and inserted the washer around the pin, then squeezed them tight around the pins with pliers.

Here are some pictures of what I was stating. Good luck.
  • Go to Peterbilt and buy a piano hinge and cut it with any saw to length. Easy fix.
  • I have done like Mountainair05 mentioned earlier, using a washer or stack of washers, cut a notch out so they will fit over the pin and lift the door and slide them in. I did this to each of the hinges so they shared the weight. I used brass washers hoping they would wear without wearing the steel hinge more and used a dry lube on the hinges. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert
