Downsizing -- Please advise -- Class A or C?

We own a 2009 Fleetwood Terra 36 LX in perfect condition and with only 7,500 miles. However, because of my husband's health issues, we are contemplating a downsize to a new 2013 Winnebago Vista 27N. It has all the features we need and is considerably shorter and more maneuverable for cities.

We are also considering a 2014 Class C Jayco Greyhawk 29ks. It has all the features we need but lacks the underbody storage of the Class A.

If you have downsized, could you share some advice/reflections with us? My husband had serious brain trauma seven years ago and is finally almost back to normal. We want to travel now while we can because we know from experience how quickly health situations can change.

Go with the short(er) class A. You'll be glad you did

J-Rooster: good point! I didn't realize the A would turn more easily than the C. We have only been looking. Next week, we begin test-driving our favorites.

Dennis: thank you! Sometimes the "what's around the next corner" can really blindside you!

BillMFI: The C cab is pretty cramped. I am trying to get husband to consider a Sprinter Based B -- especially the View, anniversary edition with two slides.

Never have liked the C cab. Personally prefer a small A. Or you should also check out the Sprinter based B.

I think the better choice is the Winnebago Vista. More room, easier to get around inside, and more storage...glad to hear your husband has recovered well, we never know what's around the next corner.....Dennis

Heisenberg: I agree. I think storage is a big issue, too.

rgatijnet!: both of us will be driving the coach. I doubt we would convert to handicap accessible. We would probably just sell, instead.

BobR: good points! One of my husband's concerns is the safety, thinking a Class C may be safer in case of a front-end collision.

tropical 36: for both of us. I am not comfortable with driving the Terra in cities. Ease of movement w/in the motorhome is a good point.

The more time you spend in the coach the more important that storage will be. Billy will back you up on the Vista.

I think it depends on the current and future health issues. At some time in the future will you have to convert the RV to be handicap accessible? Are both of you going to drive the coach?
Basically buy the coach that has a floor plan that fits your needs and is easily accessible for your husband.
Our Class A requires climbing up five steps, which may be an issue with some coaches.

IMHO a Class A is easier to get in and out of the driver's area. Also, all around visibility is better when driving and close quarters maneuvering. I would stick with a Class A.

So, this change is needed for his driving or yours? Either way, I'd go for an A for more interior room, ease of moving about from the cockpit to the rear and basement storage like you said. Let's not forget the larger windshield in and A for better seeing America, either.
