Finished getting the baseplates on the CRV. Once installed it occurred to me that the baseplate is considerably lower than the receiver on the MH. Everything I have read says that the bars should be relatively level. So, I am in need of a drop receiver. Or am I? We travel with our bikes a lot so a while ago I got a dual receiver like this:dual receiverI've always had the bottom receiver used for towing and the top "extension" for the bikes. My thinking that the straighter the pull the better. But can this be used upside down? The "extension" piece lower to pull the toad and the main one then for the bikes? The one I have is rated at 4k pounds which is less than the crv. The problem is that on the one I have it says:upper tube for accessories and lower tube for towingWhich leads me to believe the upper one cannot be flipped and used for towing. Does such a thing exist? Or can I just tow as is with the bars not completely level?Thoughts?I did see this which allows a 4" drop and rise.drop and rise

Is the one for accessories rated for towing the weight of the toad? I doubht it is strong enough. I would not trust it with my toad.

I was using the Roadmaster duel hitch that Bub posted about when I was towing an Accord. Tow bar on the bottom, bike rack in the top. Changed to an 2005 CRV which lines up pretty close to level to the coach. I did add a 2" receiver to the CRV for the bike rack.

I tow a 2013 CRV and I do not need a lower adapter receiver. It has a little drop from the coach to the CRV, but it does not effect anything. Works just fine.

You are correct the manual does say that now but my 2004 manual says up to six inches below and nothing above. That's also what the reps at the Quartzsite RV show told me.
I wonder when they changed it and why.

I got them both out on flat ground today and looks like I am right about 3". (base plate at 16" and MH receiver at 19"). So Looks like I won't need a drop after all. Thanks for all the responses.

Just a couple of comments be shure it ends up within the height recommended and that it is rated heavy enough. I wouldn't buy the minimum as your next towed may be heavier and you will have to buy another one.

We have a 6 inch we use as a riser. You might want to seriously consider the hitch immobilizer (2). Our was really sloppy until we added those. A lot of movement was eliminated. It also takes the the load off the hitch pins (on Motorhome) so they don't bind up or wear out the holes.

We pull our cherokee with no problems.

If you are within 3" then you will be fine, however if more than 3" I would recommend a drop hitch to bring it within 2".

You can get the hitch extension with the drop from Campingworld.com or ETrailer.com

WHat I would do is use the current bike attachment for the bikes and then buy a 4" drop for the car towing. This will put the car a bit further behind the bikes, and offer more space.

What I DID is install dual 2" receivers on my motorhome hitch. That way I can install a bike hitch on both sides of my motorhome and leave the center one for my car. . . I have a bike rack and a rack that holds my SACCO dog cart.
