I don't care if they are as long as I can get milage like that, it will be the DD for my wife with 3-6 towing trips a year. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer3.92 22 city 27/28 highway @ 65 and this is with a new tires. Might have to go back to the Goodyear's next time to bring the mileage back up! :M

With this thread beeing about EcoDiesel and all I have a question for the ones who (OWN) one or (HAVE OWNED) one.
I was looking at one but I am hearing bad things.
Engine falures.......transmissions shifting from 8th to 2nd going down the highway !!
should I be scared of them or is it just the old ( you only hear the bad news ) thing.
I am keeping my truck, this would be a DD for the DW.
Going into year two with my 14' Outdoorsman. Absolutely love the truck! Additionally I have two friends that also have 14's that love theirs also.
We are all in the 40-50k mileage range. And I was the first to have a major issue. My EGR cooler popped, no big deal warranty covered it. We all tow regularly, sometimes a bit heavy. There no rocket ship but will take a beating and keep on keeping on. - jus2shyExplorer

Also, typing my engine serial number into my Cummins Quickserve, it states that my engine's oil pan high capacity is 12 quarts.
I agree, I've always used about 11.5 to 12 quarts depending on how good a drain I get out of my Cummins. That is with topping off the filter. Never had to buy anymore oil than the 3 jugs of Rotella T6 or Delo Synthetic I love to use. Anything more and I'm above the fill point.
I do love quickserve :). - ShinerBockExplorerAlso, typing my engine serial number into my Cummins Quickserve, it states that my engine's oil pan high capacity is 12 quarts.

OK that is less the filter if you change your own oil and filter add 12 start it up and let it run for three minutes. Then shut it down and wait three minutes then check the oil. You are going to need to add some to bring it up to the full mark, should be just under a full qrt down.

Nope! In fact, I just checked it while I was filling up this morning and it is right smack dab in the middle between the high and low marks in the safe zone on my dipstick just like it was when I changed it 12,000 miles ago. There is no need to bring it to the full mark unless you know you will be losing some oil. What matters is if you are between the high and low marks of the safe zone. At least with all the Cummins engines I have see on the dyno when I worked there or have personally owned.
Not sure how many 6.7L you have owned, but how many of them required you to add more oil than 12 qts?
Its a 12 quart system when changing the filter. With mine is right on the full mark . I have read where some actually put in less than 12 quarts because it reads over the full mark. IMO if its drained adequately , I would establish where it hits on the dipstick after 12 quarts ,and maintain accordingly. Sure would not lose sleep over where 12 quarts is reading on the dipstick. - IdaDExplorerI've only ever put 3 gallon jugs in my Cummins and it hasn't needed any more.
