I keep getting a DSI fault light coming on when using my waterheater. It will heat up the water just fine on electric, gas or both. I have put the switch on electric only and get the fault, I can put in on gas and get the fault. I can put it on both together and get the fault. Does not matter how I run in I still get the fault light to come on. The water still heats up, but after awhile it does start to cool down. It sometimes takes the light a while to come on. Anyone got any suggestions on what to look for ?????

Clean contacts on circuit board.Clean ground connection on the gas valve. Clean and check clearance of the flame sensor.Clean burner tube.Check connections on the ECO and the thermostat. Look for dark connections on ECO and thermostat. If any are visible replace both.

You might be getting the water too hot and that would cause a lockout condition and make DSI light go on...Is it an Atwood?...their manuals are online.

I know the water does get very very hot. It will burn you if you are not careful. I can't find a thermostat to turn it down. I think it is an atwood. I will have to check the manual.

The thermostats are not adjustable from the factory. There is an after market adjustable. one. Better to just mix with cold water.Make sure the ECO and thermostat are both tight to the tank. If they are loose, they can overheat.

This problem has resurfaced again. I just put in a new control board two weeks ago. This is the first time out and it came back on after the water heater had been on for awhile. Still have hot water with both switches on (elec. & gas). It is an Atwood unit. What else can I check ?

I just ordered the ECO/T-Stat kit through Amazon for $16 with free freight. It looks very simple to replace and if it works, we have saved money by doing it ourselves. Ours was part #91547.

A misadjusted air shutter does not account for the fault light coming on when using electric heat. A faulty thermostat causing the ECO to kick out covers both modes.

After finally getting to sit down this evening and read over the manual, I think I have figured out my problem. My flame is not adjusted right. I am going to adjust the air shutter on it tomorrow and see what that does. Hopefully it is going to be this simple. Thanks for the link to the manual, it was a big help.

No, I haven't replaced the thermostat. have not been able to locate it yet.

ECO is a normally closed safety temperature switch that
sends voltage to solenoid valve. The switch opens if
the water temperature exceeds 180°F
Here is a link to a manual for an Atwood wh. Atwood Manual

The ECo and thermostat cost about $16.00. Mine as doing the same thing, replaced eco and thermostat solved problem. (both come together on same board)

I am currently having the same issue so I am monitoring your post. My fault light also comes on in the electric mode. What is a ECO?

The thermostat and the ECO are next to one another. There is also a thermal fuse hiden behind some tubing adjacent to the ECO and thermostat. This is on Atwoods.
