Electricial - Battery Disconect relay

My battery disconnect has failed and I have no 12v from the coach batteries. As a temp measure I have combined the cables from the two sides of the Intellitec Battery Disconnect Relay 01-00055-000 which is rated at 100 amps, to one post. Now I have the use of the coach batteries.

In searching I see that this is a 100 Amp relay.
There is a Intellitec “BIG BOY” BATTERY DISCONNECT
that is a 200AMP relay.

The previous owner replaced the batteries in the coach with
2 each - EXIDE NAUTILUS DUAL POURPISE 730 cranking amps 160 reserve amps, batteries.

That seems to be a total of 1460 cranking amps and 320 reserve amps.

Questions:

1- Because neither of the Intellitec Battery Disconnect Relays come close to either amp capacity rating of my total battery amps,
would my battery capacity cause the relay failure?

2- Should I be looking for another brand that carries higher amps?

3- Would I be better off with a manual disconnect.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge and opinions.
  • Thanks.
I was sort of thinking that way, but others things on the RV have
    proved me wrong before.

    Thanks for the information.
  • It is not how much battery capacity you have, It is about how many amps you draw. For most RV's a 100 amp disconnect is more than enough. That is an awful lot of power to suck out of batteries.
