Engine maintance

How much preventative maintenance one complete on a Class C rig? Ie: change oil, transmission fluid and filter change, grease fittings and the like. Are there insurance considerations?
  • Changing anti freeze belts and hoses every 30K seems excessive to me, I just carry spares and monitor wear as a maintenance item. Today's coolants will go 100K as recommended, it's not your dad's coolant anymore. Jack stands. I have large wooden blocks I drive the coach onto. I don't trust todays jack stands, like the ones from HF to hold up my coach. NEVER use the levelers to hold up the coach and work underneath. When I do change or remove a front tire I use a block of wood for safety.
  • Change the motor oil every 3-5000 miles. Filter too. Grease chassis at the same time (if you have grease fittings). Change belt(s), antifreeze and hoses at 30,000.

    That's what I do.................
  • I use the maintenance schedule for severe duty in the owner's manual.
If you are thinking warranty, then just keep receipts.
We bought a travel maintenance book. We log in any maintence done. We use it for keeping track of fuel mileage, oil changes/lubes, tire pressure, scale weights (we use weigh stations when closed).
  • Kalait,

I you feel competent to do this on a passcar or light truck, all you need are bigger drain pans, a stronger jack and heavier jackstands.

No. Read your policy. Auto insurance companies are only concerned with collision and accident liability.
