Engine missing

I have a 2000 Ford V10 310 hP. On Memorial Day weekend I developed a fuel leak above the fuel tank. We lowered the tank and found that a critter had chewed the rubber line through. The line was replaced. The first trip out it ran great as usual until I started up a grade and it shifted out of overdrive and the RPMs went to 3500 then the engine started to shake and miss fire, after dropping down to normal running RPM of 2400 it ran smooth again. This went on at all up hill times. Any ideas on what is causing this. CalD

Similar thing happened to me. When the electric fuel pump stopped working ( due to the 12 volts missing ) mine would run fine with the engine fuel pump until I had to accelerate or go up a hill then it would start to backfire and die. As soon I backed off of the gas everything was fine. Of course mine is carbureted.

that was on candid camera a long time ago. this lady comes coasting into a gas station and says her engine quit. Wrench lifts up the hood and discovers there is no engine.

If you decide to change the plugs be aware of the plug removal problem with Ford V10's and follow the correct procedure.

That is true on the 3 valve V-10. The early V-10's up to around 01 had only 3 threads in the head for the spark plug to tighten onto. If you over tightened them it would tend to pull the threads out of the head and it would make a loud popping sound! They make a repair kit that is fairly easy to repair them.

Either way torque them properly.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

X2 on the Coil on Plug. Been there . Check #4 and 5 first.

If missing on a load then check them. They don't throw a code, other than a miss. Can be check with a timing light.

Pull coil , insert a spark plug wire between plug and coil , run engine and watch timing light. My is a 99 and had #5 first fell, then #4 then #6 all within a a two weeks. Order a new complete set and change them all out and keep the 3 new ones as spare. No issue last seven years.

Two dealers spend 4 plus hours each and never did get it to mess up. The second one show me the how to test it again when it mess up with the timing light and sure enough it mess up a few days later.

it could be a fuel issue if filter is partially clogged it may be able to supply the correct pressure until you are under load. Change the filter first that is the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

Its also possible you have a COP (Coil On Plug) or 2 dropping out under load, maybe even just a spark plug. If you can run at 2400 rpm then I doubt its a fuel issue. sounds ignition related.

Did you replace the fuel filter? Some chewed debris could be blocking the filter or the line to the filter.
