engine quits

i have a 96 monaco dynasty i have had it for three years . there are a couple of thing when you turn the head lights on the gauges do funny things. the fuel gauge goes down and the heat goes up .also over the last two years while driving the motor will stall if you put it in neutral and turn the key it will start . it has only done it a few time once you restart it it runs fine.
  • the ground wire to the gauges worked fine no more problems . thxs if any body knows of so one scraping a 1996 monaco i would like to replace my dash cover around the gauges.
  • when we took the starter solenoid off the boot was wore out and the internal workings fell out that can't be good. i will try the ground wire and see it that helps the electrical problems. thank you for youe input.

my 96 had both of your problems

Adding more grounds to the dash gauges fixes the gas gauge/lights on problem.
All the gauges have 1 ground wire, that piggybacks from gauge to gauge and them goes elsewhere to other electrical items. I added a new ground to the left side and right side gauges....Problem gone

The 8.3 has known issues with the fuel shut off solenoid not opening, partially opening and or opening but not able to stay open causing the fuel to the inj pump to be shut off...thus causing engine to die...they usually always start right back up...just as yours is doing

    Yup, two common issues.

I have ZERO experience with motorhomes but some with oddball vehicle problems:

The electrical issues might be a bad chassis ground. Check to see if you can find a braided metal strap from the engine to the frame or firewall, it might be loose or fixing to break. Also sometimes the ground is run through a motor mount which is impossible to see.

The stalling might be an auto-shut-off relay with dirty contact points. The relay will shut off fuel flow if it senses that the engine is not running but the fuel pump still is.

    Just shots in the dark.

I had the same issue with the gauges and headlights. So did the previous owner of our 92 Dynasty. I finally ran a separate ground wire from the chassis to the instruments and the problem was solved!

In our case the motor had nothing to do with the bad ground. I went from the frame at the front directly to the gauge grounding.

  • engine dying could be fuel filter or previous fuel contamination.once trash settle it runs fine for a while
