Extended Service Plan for older Class A

My point is these things cost money to keep up with, but to us it is our home as we live in it full time and love every minute of it.

As a guy once asked me..Do those things appreciate? My reply.. I appreciate the hell out of mine..they are moneypits bud...

WOW, $900 for a tire,...and over $100 for putting a shock on, WOW!

We purchased our '08 in April of '07 and drove it just shy of 70K in 7.5 yrs then selling it in 2014. When we bought, we were offered a bumper to bumper warranty for $8,000. I took the brochure home it seem to cover absolutely nothing, so I said no.

Over the 7.5 yrs, we didn't spend near that in repairs (not counting regular maintenance).

:B I'm going to use that one! I've had salesman use the term "investment" and I always respond with "Yeah...like the Stock Market when it crashes!"

As far as Extended Warranties, I'm also in the "self-finance" category. Had one extended warranty many years ago that paid virtually nothing the couple of times I had claims, which were actually quite minor in size. Just for fun, I did get a GS extended warranty quote when I bought my 2007 Journey 1 1/2 years ago...over $3K per year and that was with a $1K deductible. I'll just set that money aside and take care of things myself. These companies try to scare people in their ads by making it sound like you'll need a new engine, new transmission, new refrigerator, and a new heating system all in the same visit and apparently no repair, just replacement. And of course, they'll cover it all except for the deductible. A fairytale.

Why would anyone go to an RV repair shop for tires?? BTW: They are 295/80's and I have never heard of anyone paying that price!! GS is the worst of any of the extended policy issuers. They look for any excuse not to pay. If you complain they pay.

Wise choice and now to see who wins the proposed bet.
They, with betting that it wouldn't break down and with you betting that it would have.
Either way and for the long term, you'll come out ahead and especially with years of RVing.
Since 2004, I'd say we probably saved enough for taking a nice chunk off the cost of our last purchase, in 2016.

Hi Doug...and thanks to all who have voiced their concerns. The contract is very exclusionary. Claims are easily denied esp if no satisfactory maintenance records are kept. Alot of reasons for denials. remember, insurance contracts are written for the benefit of the insurance company.
I also realize proper maintenance and related expense is in addition to the ESP.

I will self insure.
Now to read up on maintenance!

$800 per year for a 16 year old RV? Sorry, but that extremely LOW price would make me very reluctant to trust they would honor claims or they are excluding a LOT of items that other Contracts cover. Do you know if it is EXCLUSIONARY or INCLUSIONARY?

I know. What I was saying that I am not looking forward to replacing the tires at my own expense. They are truck tires--245 75R 22.5. I am not sure if i will self insure or go with US Warranty.

US Warranty is sending an inspector to the coach to check for driveability and pre-existing items. I will then know what needs to be fixed immediately before my drive back to Tulsa.(Take me back to Tulsa, I'm too young to marry...) The ESP is $800 per year for 5 years.
