Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

I got started on my summer project the last couple days. I found this thing on Craig's list for $100 and drove it home. It's a 78 Dodge Monaco 23' with a 440. Here's what it looked like when I brought it home.

Ok, time to dive in!

Oh man, I can't believe the huge bag of rusty screws I have already! It's actually not as rotten as I was thinking it was going to be. Just in the corners, where the screws need to be. Still so much to remove....

Spectramac yes those are 2x4's...cut the curve on a bandsaw. Did not use treated because of the weight. Used 3/8 plywood then glued on the rubber roof. I wanted something other than rubber until I priced it....Plus the rubber is the easiest to do at home. Good luck on your project....you are doing a great job.

Nice Tom, I want to do that to the roof too. Are those just cut down 2x4s?

Now the problem is the weather. It's hard to work on it while under the tarp. 😉

This topic is a winner! You may be "just a mechanic" but if only one of our sons had half your gumption, we would be thrilled! Thanks for making our day!

I stumbled on this post just today, July 28th.. Man you must be a terrier!! or a bull dog,, just won't let it go.. Good for you..
Most I ever did was replace the top on my old Cab over back in the 70s, but one of my brothers worked in a cabinet shop and the other in a place they built RV's so we had tools and experience working for us..

Today I got the land to do it on,, the tools, and in my mind , what I would change,, But,, the get up and go , got up and went a long time ago. Dang it. 😞 in my case I could do it all under the cover of the carport extension I am going to but on to house my rig, once I get one.. But. and there is always a but, The ambition is not there,, I know that I would find a deal and get started and somewhere in the process,, just******out and never get around to finishing it.. I can see in my mind what I would want and there is just one of me, ,well, two cats don't count. but..

Reading your post has given me more ambition though.. thanks..

any idea where to purchase the corner weather molding that joins the cab to the house?

Not sure which molding you are talking about. Mine used the same stuff all over. Not sure who sells it...

Yeah, it does look like something off the evening news, huh! 🙂

Well, no more mister nice guy! I'm gonna make a mobile dance floor out of it! :B

Got the bathroom, closet, and mid wall out tonight.

I might as well just level it to the floor, fix any soft spots, then rebuild all the cabinets and go from there with walls and the roof. All this fooling around is for the birds! It'll be far easier just starting over. 😉

You know, I was going to suggest starting from a Flat Clean Floor, but, it looks like you were having far too much fun, For something "Simple" like that !!!:B

I have been involved with rebuilding old pop - ups in the past, but you my friend, are in a class by yourself!!!:W

Then a little floor clean up in the kitchen.

It's almost a dance floor... Shouldn't be too much longer.
