Fleetwood Flair Starter

We have a 1990 Fleetwood Flair and think we need to replace the starter. Trying to figure information on the part so we can buy a new one before we take off the bad one. Not sure of the engine size but know it's on a Chevy engine and P90 chassis. Any help would be appreciated!
  • I have had good luck getting starters and alternators rebuilt by local guys working out of their garages. The cost is a fraction of buying new or rebuilt but it may take them several days to get the thing rebuilt. Some of the auto parts guys know where to find these guys - if they are willing to tell you.

You will be far better off taking the current starter off and taking it to an auto parts store where they can match it exactly. You will still need to know the size and make of the engine. I would guess that you have an 8.1 chevy engine, but that is only a guess without actually looking at the MH.

X2 - good advise except it will probably be a 454 cu in (7.4) NOT 8.1.
The 8.1 is a later model engine.
  • Since the late 60's, through the '90's, chevy only used 1 starter.

Go to your local Napa or Autozone, talk to the "good" counter guy, not the one who is lost without his computer, and get a high performance mini starter for a 454 chevy engine.

If it doesn't fit they will take it back.
