Fleetwood has a line of "Crossovers"?

I noticed on the Fleetwood website, that they have four categories: Class A Diesel, Class A Gas, CROSSOVER, and Class C Gas.

When did they start this "Crossover" category? Is it just a marketing ploy? Has anything changed about the Terra, for example, since it became a "crossover"? The name implies better gas mileage, but how much better?

Marketing. Supposed to be a hybrid of a class A and C - The ACE started this (A and C Evolution). I didn't buy mine for that reason though and frankly the distinction bothers me. Fleetwood is referring to the FR3 which is a clone of the ACE. It's a Class A with an electric bunk. That's all. Just like the ones you see in a lot of MH's now even DP's. It's a Class A, there's really nothing C about them. Again, marketing. Trying to bridge the purchase gap between the C and A market. Price point is really the only thing similar. But these are Class A's built on the F53 chassis.
  • Are these built on the Van chassis rather than the F53 chassis? Maybe that is the difference.

    According to Fleetwood's site:

"Class A gas motorhome packed with style and amenities that you typically find in a class C. So many features for less! Think of it as a crossover-hybrid style motorhome"

Again it's all about marketing. it's a class A on an F53 chassis. But it has "features" of a Class C according to them. Not sure what those features are as just about any brand now makes one with a bunk. Somehow having an electric bunk makes it like a Class C with a cab-over. Silly. But that's their marketing strategy. The Storm, Terra and Flair are in this lineup. I guess they didn't want to make a brand new model to compete with the FR3 and ACE so they just re-branded the staples in their existing entry level line-up.
  • Winnebago has also launched a new line to compete with ACE/FR3. Actually they seem to have just rebadged the old Vista line as "Vista LX", while the plain Jane "Vista" is the ACE/FR3 equivalent.
  • Ya gotta LOVE those marketing folks, selling us the same stuff with new names.
