Flex Steel Seating

My 2010 Thor with flexsteel seats have 30000 miles and look like new
They changed something.....

Its funny because when I contacted them about caring for it they referred me to how to clean. Which I agreed but I wanted to know if I should use a care product to keep it from drying out. They of course said it doesn't dry out, which is when I sent pictures. And that's when they replied I could use a leather moisturizor or conditioner but said no armor all. They said its poly something or other and won't absorb. But since it was exposing the under layer a moisturizor may help to prevent further degradation. Its been working on my sofa, my fronts are just too gone.

I don't think cleaning was the issue either. I posted the cleaning instruction site because one poster said that Flexsteel told him to use leather cleaning products and hopefully posting the right info might keep someone from using the wrong stuff.

I suspect that Thor and the other manufactures with seat covering problems did not use UltraLeather but some fake knockoff instead.

UltraLeather has been around for many years and has a good reputation for quality.

As stated, it's not the cleaning nor the use. It was an inferior product used by Thor and some others - pure and simple. I assume to save money. From my understanding, this product was only used for a 2 or 3 year period that encompassed '07 & '08.

That is just not true. My UltraLeather furniture has been cleaned with a mild detergent and water or 409 as recommended by UltraLeather and they are in great shape - showing NO wear. No conditioner used and none is recommended in the cleaning and care instructions.

There are a lot of similar name knock offs out there that are inferior.
Maybe that is what you came across rather than real UltraLeather.

Flexsteel ULTRALEATHER, ours is an '08. But the few friends we have with rv's are in the same boat with there Flexsteel Ultraleathers furniture. Also have a lot of friends who are in the trucking industry they too agree, it just does not hold up.

When I contacted Flexsteel they recommended leather care products.

Cleaning isn't the problem, it's the drying, cracking and flaking. Which is why they recommended conditioners. I know technically ultraleather isn't supposed to crack or flake because it contains no leather at all but it does crack, flake and degrade. It's funny because custom car guys love the stuff, but most of them don't put more than 3000 miles a year on their cars.

FWIW, the Flexsteel rep was quoted as saying "Just a side note, if your motor home is a Damon/Four Winds/ Monaco/Fleetwood/Tiffin…..they all had problems with the fabric they selected." So there were several manufacturers who had this problem. I believe all these manufacturers were sold an inferior product without their knowing it was junk. Hopefully the vendor, whoever it was, is now out of business!

One of the companies is Williamsburg and they are still in business, and they won't give you any help with the problems either, kinda just ignore you.

Have a new 2013 Alegro. Had the dealer replace the driver's seat and the dinette cushions under warranty as they 'collapsed' during the first trip - simply no support at all. Thought more highly of flex steel but so far have found their products far inferior to those we've enjoyed on our previous Winnebago products.
